The fourth, Taste of Chicago, Gomez and much more!

Friday, July 4th

The fourth of July is one of the summer's biggest reasons to invites family and friends over, barbecue and watch fireworks (or set off your own). For Chicago, the "Taste of Chicago" overlaps this holiday during it's 10-day food festival in the heart of Grant Park. For XRT, the fourth is the second biggest event of the summer.

Right on the corner of Jackson and South Columbus, our extra large and extremely X-clusive VIP tent welcomed only our finest and X-tremely important personnel. As part of the first shift, I was responsible for setting up the inside of the tent, the tables, decorations and the outdoor drink table. In red, white and blue each of the tables were colorfully dressed with able clothes, XRT calendars, sponsor items such as OFF! bug spray, XRT/ Fisher nut paper fans, Fisher nuts and other goodies.

Our tent welcomed our finest clients, staff and most valued VIP's of the station. Connies Pizza catered lunch and Miller, Vitamin Water, Malibu Rum and Smart Water were all beverages of choice in our tent. The XRT tent was strategically placed stage left and behind the stage with plenty of room to watch the free XRT concert from the sidelines. I was able to meet and talk to XRT staff, friends and VIPs while enjoying the lyrical talents of some of today's hottest musicians.

Gomez, Old 97's and Alejandro Escovedo were the selected artists of entertainment for the evening. In comparison to last years headliner, John Mayer, this turnout was quite comparable. Starting off the day right, Old 97's and Alejandro Escovedo set the audience in an rock and roll mood before Gomez hit the stage.

All the anticipation led up to the moment XRT's very own Jason Thomas introduced the most-well respected English rock-folk indie band in the states. "Drawing on their disparate tastes, which ranged from Nirvana to Woody Guthrie, Motown singles to barbershop quartets, they honed a one-of-a-kind sound that incorporated all their influences around their shared point of reference: A deep, abiding love for creative music of all stripes." I really enjoyed listening to them, might I add from the VIP tent!!! Their sound is like no other band I've learned about this summer. The intensity of the crowd drew me in! Their fans were great!

It was a fantastic way to spend the fourth, with my XRT family :)
