Wrigleyville Relay 2008

Saturday, June 7th

When I think of Wrigleyville--I think of a second place baseball team to Chicago.
When I see an event advertised with 'Relay' in the title--I think running or walking for a good cause.
When you put these two together, what do you get? Definitely not a charity event with the Chicago Cubs. Instead, it's a Saturday afternoon bar crawl in Wrigleyville with Miller drink specials and many great prizes up for grabs! It's a chance for friends to "race" through the Chicago's favorite taverns and enjoy the taste of Miller Genuine Draft on a sunny summer day.

This event was a basic promotion day spent with XRT staff and radio personalities having a good time in Wrigleyville with one of their top sponsors, Miller. We traveled from bar to bar giving away prizes such as jewelery, Swedish massages, XRT gear, bicycles and much more. At each bar, the some 400 participant's cards were punched proving how "far" they have come. At the last bar, Cubby Bear (right across from Wrigley Field) everyone who made the complete round was congratulated with more XRT gear and a raffle ticket for a chance to win the grand prize of a rooftop party for 10 people!

This was definitely an experience to document, as I watched long-time listeners of XRT enjoy themselves with the help of Miller products. Interacting with these fans was a fun way to spend the day in the city, hear their testimonies of what a great station XRT is and witness their journey from sober sally to stumbling sammy. Overall, the day could hardly be considered "work", but yet a fun duty as a promotions intern working for a large corporate radio station and one of it's main sponsors, Miller.
