My First Day

Friday, May 29th

Today was my official first day working for WXRT Radio! As a Promotional Intern my duties mainly include representing the station by attending concerts, promo events, street festivals and working on special projects throughout the summer. Today I had the pleasure of attending a Live from Studio X Show, which is a V.I.P. concert available to XRT's listeners who have won tickets to an "X-clusive" show. These shows feature "some of the biggest names in the most intimate spaces," WXRT and Miller Genuine Draft bring great performers to local stages to lucky listeners. Some shows have included performances such as The Wallflowers, Lenny Kravitz, Death Cab for Cutie, Dave Mattews, Cake, Train, BoDeans, Buddy Guy, John Mayer, Colbie Caillat, Steve Earle, The Monsters and many more. Tonight American rock guitarist, singer and songwriter, John Hiatt, welcomed 150 V.I.P. XRT listeners at The Hideout, a remote pub on the North side of Chicago. His acoustic set featured some of his top hits and a few new songs. The concert was jam-packed, but nonetheless a great way to start off my summer and internship.

My responsibilites for this event included handing out lanyards to the V.I.P.s as they entered, offering free static stickers and CD Samplers of recent music that XRT is playing on the radio. I didn't quite know what to expect---but sparking up conversations about music and radio with the guests proved to be comforting and very enjoyable!
