Today was my first day working in the XRT office located at 455 North City Front Plaza in the NBC Tower, downtown Chicago-- which houses a variety of other professional businesses and corporations such as the Jerry Springer show set, Judge Mathis set among many of NBC's finest journalists and personnel. When I entered the building I had to find my way to the appropriate set of elevators and check in with security. I was definitely nervous for my first day working for such a well known and respected radio station in Chicago.XRT has moved their office from the Belmont location, which they have called "home" for years, in the West loop, to the NBC tower recently in the past few months, leaving their studios behind where the production of all the shows take place. This site is only temporary until 2010 when they move into the Prudential building. This station, owned by CBS Radio, is located in the NBC towers in downtown Chicago and shares office space with 670 The Score.
When I arrived at 9:00am, I was given a tour of the entire office, meeting other members of the marketing staff and met the two other Promotions Interns that I will work with every Friday in the office this summer.
I started working on entering V.I.P. information into our email listserve. At our events, listeners or those who just pass by, have the chance to win something from our station--usually tickets to a concert (front row sometimes!). By signing up for the drawing, they have the opportunity to be added to our V.I.P. list. These members receive an exclusive weekly email updating them on concerts, events and special promotions. An added bonus is that these emails are sent directly to these V.I.P.s from our DJs!
Today I was assigned to put together event boxes for the weekend.
Aside from working one day a week in the office, my main duty is to attend street festivals, concerts and any other event XRT sponsers or supports. As an intern, I represent the station and promote the station at these events. We usually have a tent or booth set up at these types of events and serve as an outlet for fans and listeners to visit and talk with. We typically offer free merchandise such as buttons, Koozies, car stickers and CD Samplers---all branded with the XRT logo. Today I packed boxes of these items for different festivals and concerts that were scheduled for this coming weekend.I know it is just my first day, but I am really looking forward to what this internship and 93XRT is all about!
